Marking its first major distribution deal, Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network reached an agreement Monday with WCBS-TV in New York to distribute a minimum of 20 New York Yankees Major League Baseball games.
While the telecast schedule -- which begins in April 2002 -- is not set, CBS vice president and general manager Tony Petitti said the games would air in various time periods during the summer, including possible weekday primetime slots.
CBS will carry the team's Memorial Day and Fourth of July games, as well as games with the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants.
Local Fox Broadcasting Co. affiliate WNYW-TV carried 50 Yankees games this season.
YES will produce CBS' telecasts, but CBS will sell its own advertising avails, Petitti said.
He added that the Yankees would bring a more diverse audience to the network.
'There's no prouder tradition than the Yankees, and they have fans that cut across all corners of the city,' Petitti said.
