Cisco to Discuss VOD Venture

Cisco Systems Inc. -- which supplies cable-modem-termination-system gear to cable operators -- plans Tuesday to discuss a new initiative to integrate video-on-demand-server technology into existing headend equipment.

The aim would be to smooth integration efforts for operators and reduce the number of physical boxes in the headend, people familiar with the initiative said, without providing further details.
