Time Warner Cable Gets Wiser

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 3/28/2002 10:13:00 AM

As it prepares to expand its local base, Time Warner Cable Thursday named Elliott Wiser -- who has been serving as vice president and general manager of its Bay News 9 network in the Tampa Bay, Fla., market -- to head programming for all of its news operations.

In his new post, Wiser will work closely with divisions to help manage existing local news channels and to help design and launch new networks.

Time Warner currently runs local news operations in New York and Rochester, N.Y.; Orlando and Tampa, Fla.; Austin, Texas; and Raleigh, N.C.

Over the next year, the company is slated to launch news operations in Houston; San Antonio; Syracuse and Albany, N.Y.; and Charlotte, N.C.

'Elliott has done a great job at Bay News 9, and we look forward to having his business and editorial expertise as a resource for all of our other channels,' Time Warner Cable senior vice president of programming John Newton said in a prepared statement.

Wiser had been with Bay News 9 since its debut in September 1997.

Earlier this month, he oversaw the debut of Bay News 9 en Español, the nation's first 24-hour local news channel broadcast entirely in Spanish. The channel is available on the operator's digital tier in the Tampa DMA.
