The Time Warner Cable system in El Paso, Texas, opened its broadband pipe to two high-speed Internet-service providers Monday, America Online Inc. and EarthLink Inc.
'Starting today, customers in El Paso can enjoy Time Warner Cable's high-speed cable-modem Internet service through an expanded choice of ISPs,' vice president and general manager Alan Spencer said in a press release.
'We're proud to be among the first in the nation to provide consumers more ISP choices with the convenience of a super-fast connection that never requires dialing in or waiting,' he added.
AOL High Speed Broadband costs $54.95 per month, with one month of free service during a promotional period. The fee includes unlimited dial-up access, as well.
For a lower fee of $44.95 per month, AOL Broadband customers pay an extra hourly fee if they use AOL's dial-up service.
EarthLink's broadband service costs $41.95 per month.
AOL offers seven electronic-mail addresses, plus proprietary content.
EarthLink customers are allowed eight e-mail addresses, personal Web pages and roaming access through the company's dial-up network.
