Barbaric Ratings for History Channel

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 1/22/2004 9:45:00 AM

The first half of The History Channel’s Barbarians special spiked quite a few viewers, finishing as the third-most-watched show in the network's history.

Barbarians: Vikings/Goths clubbed a 2.7 household rating from 9 p.m.-11 p.m. Jan. 19, with some 3.1 million viewers on average, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That trailed only the 3.4 million viewers Russia: Land of the Tsars delivered during its two-part premiere May 26-27, according to network officials.

On the demo front, the first part of Barbarians reached 925,000 males 25-54 and 1.5 million adults of that age bracket.

The second part of the special, Barbarians: Mongols/Huns, aired Jan. 20. It figured to take a Nielsen hit against President Bush's State of the Union address.
