Fox News Wins with Bush

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 9/3/2004 9:52:00 AM

On a three-night roll, Fox News Channel topped the "Big Three" broadcast networks with its coverage of President Bush’s acceptance speech Thursday at the Republican National Convention, drawing 7.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Fox News racked up that audience from 10 to 11 p.m. Thursday, the fourth night of the GOP confab, which was the record telecast for the network so far this year.

With Fox News’s victory Thursday, it beat ABC, CBS and NBC three nights in a row with its convention coverage, from Tuesday through Thursday. Ratings Thursday for the broadcasters for Bush’s speech were: CBS, 5 million viewers and ABC, 5.1 million, while a preliminary number put NBC at over 5 million.

Cable News Network drew 2.65 million viewers from 10 to 11 p.m. Thursday, while MSNBC had 1.72 million viewers.

For Thursday’s full primetime (8 to 11:30 p.m.), Fox News generated a 4.1 rating, or 5.3 million viewers. CNN did a 1.6 rating, or 1.9 million viewers, while MSNBC did a 1.2 rating, or 1.4 million viewers.
