USA Enters King's Dead Zone

In its most expensive original series ever, USA Network said Thursday that it has ordered 22 episodes of Dead Zone, a drama based on fright author Steven King's similarly titled novel.
The series, produced by Lion's Gate Television and starring Anthony Michael Hall, will cost the network about $1 million per episode, sources close to the situation said.
Dead Zone, expected to launch in June, is the only scripted series the network has scheduled for 2002. Two other pilots -- tentatively titled Monk and Red Skies -- are under consideration, network executives said.
USA is scheduled to launch reality-based series Combat Missions Jan. 16. The network debuted late-night game-show series Smush last month.
