CableLabs OKs Headend Gear

Louisville, Colo.-Cable Television Laboratories Inc.said three more headend-equipment vendors have obtained Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 1.0-qualified status:RiverDelta Networks Inc.,Riverstone Networks Inc. andTerayon Communication Systems Inc.

By granting qualification through testing, CableLabs said it has determined that Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTSs) built by those companies can interoperate with retail-ready, DOCSIS 1.0-certified cable modems.

To date, CableLabs has granted headend qualifications to eight vendors. The others areArris Interactive LLC,Cisco Systems Inc.,Broadband Access Systems(now part ofADC),3Com Corp. andMotorola Broadband Communications Sector.

CableLabs also requalified Motorola Broadband's CMTS and recertified one of the company's cable modems for DOCSIS 1.0.

So far, more than 90 cable modems and 36 vendors have received the DOCSIS 1.0 interoperability seal, CableLabs said.

CableLabs' first DOCSIS 1.1 certification and qualification wave is expected to begin Oct. 23.Broadband Access Systems Inc.,Cadant Inc.,Cisco Systems Inc. and RiverDelta said they plant to submit their respective CMTS gear for the initial round of 1.1 testing.
