America Channel Inks CBS News Deal

Fledgling reality network The America Channel has struck a production accord with CBS News Productions.
Doron Gorshein, CEO and president of The America Channel -- which plans a second-quarter-2004 debut with content telling homespun tales of the every man and woman -- said the network will have "a close working relationship" with CBS News Productions in three main ways.
He said the CBS News unit -- which has the "right sensibilities for what we’re trying to do" -- will produce commissioned segments and also "develop concepts that we could be a platform for." In addition, The America Channel will "access their national footprint. We’ll be able to drill down into the country and find interesting personal stories."
Marjorie Baker, vice president of CBS News Productions, said the kinds of shows about real-life people The America Channel wants to present are in keeping with "our experiences and the quality of programming we do."
In addition to supplying "Black Rock" with programming, CBS News Productions also produces content for such nonfiction cable networks as Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, Travel Channel, The History Channel, A&E Network, National Geographic Channel and sister service TV Land
