Pasadena, Calif.-Charter Communications Inc. said it has launched video-on-demand service to 167,000 homes in Pasadena, becoming the first city in the MSO's Los Angeles region to gain access to the technology.
Charter, which is using Diva Systems Corp.'s VOD technology here, plans to roll the service out to roughly 275,000 subscribers in greater L.A. by the end of 2000. Charter's L.A. VOD service currently offers about 300 movies with VCR functionality, the company said.
Earlier this year, Charter announced it would use Diva gear for a VOD rollout that would eventually reach more than 1.2 million homes. Charter already offers DIVA-powered VOD service to about 7,000 customers in Duluth, Ga.
