Follow BlueHighways to New Net

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 7/14/2004 1:16:00 PM

A country-music veteran is trying to get traction for a new network called BlueHighways TV, which aims to explore the people and traditions of America.

The network’s strategy is to be a destination for entertainment, folklore and information for viewers interested in all aspects of American life and heritage.

In fact, the service’s format sounds very similar that of The America Channel, the mandate of which is to bring together programs about America, its people and the American experience.

BlueHighways TV is being created by Network Creative Group LLC, a content and network-development company led by Country Music Television pioneer Stan Hitchcock.

“BlueHighways TV is like a family neighborhood picnic from all over the country,” Hitchcock said in a prepared statement. “A bounty of music, good friends, stories, food, travel and celebration that, interwoven together, define America’s vivid culture and character.”

The network has been running a test schedule since February, which some have received via C-band. BlueHighways TV said it is in active negotiations for carriage.
