TiVo Sues EchoStar

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 1/6/2004 10:49:00 AM

TiVo Inc. said it sued EchoStar Communications Corp. for allegedly violating its "time-warp" patent, which allows viewers to record one program while playing back another.

The patent also allows viewers to watch a program while it’s recording.

EchoStar markets a digital video recorder similar to TiVo’s DVR called the "DISH Player-DVR."

EchoStar spokesman Steve Caulk said late Monday that the company had not yet seen a copy of the complaint.
