Microsoft Corp. said Monday that it has formed the Media/Entertainment & Technology Convergence Group.
The new unit will focus on the media and entertainment industries, including home-entertainment technologies, personal computing and media, with special attention given to business and market development, technical and Internet-protocol policy and industry-standards initiatives.
Blair Westlake has joined Microsoft to head the new unit, and his title will be corporate vice president. Westlake had been chairman of Universal Television & Networks Group.
"The creation of the Media/Entertainment & Technology Convergence Group and Blair Westlake's appointment underscore Microsoft's strong commitment to delivering cutting-edge products for the digital-networked home and continuing to build mutually productive and profitable relationships with the media and entertainment industries," Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in a prepared statement.
