Paul Allen’s Digeo Inc. has secured a field trial of its media center ("BMC 9012") in Adelphia Communications Corp.’s system in Los Angeles in the first half of 2004, with an eye toward deploying 25,000 boxes in the market by year’s end.
"This is our first MSO outside of the Vulcan [Inc.] family, and we’re very excited about it," Digeo chief operating officer Bert Kolde said, referring to Allen’s Vulcan investment arm.
Charter Communications Inc. -- of which Paul Allen is chairman and principal shareholder -- is the other MSO that has deployed Diego’s "Moxi" media center.
It includes two tuners, to watch and record programming; an 80-gigabyte hard drive; and enough processing power for interactive applications such as a music jukebox, games, photos and home networking.
