Intellon Debuts 85-Mbps Chip Set

By Matt Stump -- Multichannel News, 9/29/2004 12:25:00 PM

Intellon Inc. has announced a new chip set built for power-line applications and capable of delivering 85 megabits per second of bandwidth throughout the home.

The “INT5500CS” chip set is compliant with the 14-mbps HomePlug 1.0 specification, the company said.

The chip set will allow service providers to offer standard-definition video, video over Internet protocol, digital-video-recorder networking and media-center PCs all interconnected within a home.

Intellon said the chip set could also handle whole-house audio, extensions and bridging of wireless technologies such as 802.11x and ultra wideband and higher digital-subscriber-line data rates.
