Cox Las Vegas Adds Home Security

By Monica Hogan -- Multichannel News, 3/11/2002 10:32:00 AM

Cox Communications Inc. announced Monday that it has launched a home-security-monitoring service in Las Vegas in partnership with @Security Broadband Corp.

The 'SafeVillage' home-security system uses a cable modem, cameras and microphones to allow customers to monitor their homes from remote PCs.

Employees at the central monitoring service can also watch and listen to the customers' homes in the event that alarms are triggered in order to help verify whether or not they are false.

A standard security package will cost $499 installed, plus $39.95 per month for the monitoring fee. The price requires a one-year monitoring contract.

Additional hardware, including extra cameras and smoke detectors, can be purchased separately.
