Kaitz to Honor NAMIC, WICT, Bowen

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/5/2004 1:08:00 PM

The Walter Kaitz Foundation will honor three other diversity-focused organizations during its 21st Annual Fund-Raising Dinner Sept. 22 at the Hilton New York in New York.

The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications, Women in Cable & Telecommunications and the Emma L. Bowen Foundation for Minority Interests in Media will be recognized at the dinner.

“Each of these groups has become synonymous with cable-industry diversity," Kaitz Foundation executive director Debbie A. Smith said in a prepared statement. “NAMIC has been our industry's most effective advocate, change agent and provider of leadership-development programs for advancing people of color in all levels of our work force.”

Smith added, “WICT has led the way in providing career coaching and professional development for women, while encouraging industry companies to provide opportunity for women to succeed in management roles. And Emma Bowen has focused on skills training and professional internship experiences for diverse young people, exposing them early in life to opportunities in the cable-television and broadcasting industries.”

The foundation is also honoring one of its own: founder Spencer Kaitz, former president and general counsel of the California Cable & Telecommunications Association.

This year’s dinner is being co-chaired by Matthew Blank, chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., and Glenn Britt, chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable and chairman of the Kaitz Foundation.
