MTV: Music Television said Friday that the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from American Airlines Arena in Miami Sunday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. (EST/PST).
This marks the first time in their 20-year existence that the VMAs will be held in a city other than New York or Los Angeles.
“The VMAs are always the biggest, craziest party of the year, and Miami is a beautiful backdrop for this summer's show," MTV and MTV2 president Van Toffler said in a prepared statement. “When we made the decision to move the VMAs this year, we found a perfect host in Miami, a town with a rich musical heritage and strong cultural diversity.”
