Slow Going for Arbitron-Nielsen Talks

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 6/5/2002 8:16:00 AM

Arbitron Inc. said its talks with Nielsen Media Research involving a Portable People Meter joint venture have taken longer than expected.

The companies, which had been trying to finalize an agreement by midyear, are now shooting to form a partnership by the fourth quarter.

Arbitron is testing the PPM -- a pager-sized device that can monitor radio, broadcast-television and cable usage -- with 1,500 trial participants in the Philadelphia DMA.

Arbitron said its radio, broadcast, cable and ad-agency clients will see the first ratings data from the trial in July, covering audience measurement for the month of May.
