DirecTV Inc. said Wednesday that it has reached a long-term multiplatform carriage agreement for NBC Universal Cable’s properties.
The deal covers carriage of USA Network and Sci Fi Channel; digital retransmission consent for NBC’s owned-and-operated stations; rights to distribute NBC's HDTV programming for the upcoming Athens Olympic Games; carriage of Bravo HD+; and rights to carry first-run Universal movie titles and NBC Universal specials and events on a pay-per-view basis.
Contracts for Bravo, Telemundo and Mun2 were also renewed and extended. The companies already had long-term deals in place for carriage of CNBC, MSNBC, CNBC World and the Olympics.
“Our agreement with NBC Universal Cable is a gold-medal win for our customers who have been asking for more HD content, as well as those who will continue to enjoy the breadth of quality programming NBCU offers," DirecTV executive vice president of programming Stephanie Campbell said in a prepared statement.
