Turner Inks Chip Caray for Braves Telecasts

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 10/4/2004 12:02:00 PM

Chip Caray will call Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball games on TBS and Turner South under a multiyear deal announced Monday.

Chip Caray joins Hall of Fame announcers Skip Caray (Chip’s father) and Pete Van Wieren, both entering their 30th seasons, along with Don Sutton, entering his 17th season, and Joe Simpson, entering his 14th year.

The deal marks a return to Turner for Chip Caray, who called Braves baseball in 1991-92 on TBS and Turner's SportSouth regional sports network, which has since been sold to Fox Cable Networks Group’s FSN.

"We're very pleased to be able to reunite Skip and Chip as Atlanta Braves broadcasters on TBS and Turner South," Turner Sports president David Levy said in a prepared statement.

"The Carays' unique family legacy behind the microphone -- which includes a Hall of Famer in Harry, a Braves Hall of Famer in Skip and a Hall of Fame-caliber talent in Chip -- is part of the fabric of Major League Baseball," Levy added.

"The old saying, 'You can't go home again,' isn't true in this case,” Chip Caray said in a prepared statement. “The opportunity to work with my dad and to return to Turner is a dream come true.”
