Blackwell Tapped as SoapNet GM

SoapNet has named Deborah Blackwell general manager, announced Anne Sweeney, president of ABC Cable Networks Group and Disney Channel Worldwide.

In her new post, Blackwell is responsible for managing all day-to-day operations for the 24-hour network devoted to soap-opera fare.

Most recently, Blackwell spent two years in leadership positions in new media as president of MyHome.com, then senior vice president of media and entertainment with Internet consultant Guidance Inc.

From 1993 through 1999, she headed up the television-, movie- and miniseries-packaging department at the William Morris Agency.

'Deborah's wide-ranging experience in the entertainment industry, her expertise in online businesses and her leadership skills will bring the knowledge and focus that will take SoapNet to its next stage,' Sweeney said in a prepared statement.
