Telemundo Taps Jacqueline Hernandez As COO

Former 'People en Espanol' Publisher Charged With Tying Clients To Different Platforms

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 4/7/2008 6:37:00 PM

Telemundo Communications Group has hired Jacqueline Hernandez as its chief operating officer.

In the newly created position, Hernandez will have responsibilities for all domestic revenue and marketing, digital media and emerging platforms. Hernandez, who will be based in New York, also will have oversight for cable network mun2, affiliate relations and all research functions.

Hernandez, who will report to Telemundo Communications Group president Don Browne, joins the NBC Universal property from People en Español, where she was the publisher of the best-selling Hispanic magazine in the U.S.

A seasoned executive with over 20 years of media experience across print, TV and online, Hernandez is charged with leading and unifying all sales, marketing and domestic growth platforms for the consolidated Telemundo network and stations group. Her mission will be to bridge all Telemundo offerings to domestic advertising clients and enhance Telemundo's connection with its audience. She will also partner closely with Telemundo's programming, studio, and news and sports leaders to grow market share.

"Jackie is a great addition to the Telemundo management team. Her extensive knowledge of the Hispanic market, her experience in multi-media platforms and her outstanding reputation in the industry will be important contributions to our team and essential to our future growth in an increasingly diverse, competitive and changing environment," said Browne in a statement.

Hernandez joined People en Espanol in March 2004 and led a three-year run of double-digit growth, year-over-year. In 2007, Hernández relaunched the magazine's Web site, peopleenespanol.com. In June 2005, she took on additional duties as publisher of Teen People overseeing the day-to-day business operations for both the Hispanic and teen/multicultural titles.

Before joining People en Español, Hernández was vice president account development North America for Turner International, responsible for broadcast and digital advertising sales, marketing, research and sponsorships for Turner Broadcasting System's international properties. Previously, she was vice president of Turner International's integrated sales. She joined TBS in March 2000 as director of interactive sales.
