Stunt Cheers ABC Family

by Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 12/30/2007 7:00:00 PM

ABC Family's stocking overflowed: its 10th annual holiday stunt was its best ever in total viewers and key age groups.

The “25 Days of Christmas” programming event, led by the Dec. 9 premiere of telefilm Holiday in Handcuffs, averaged a nightly 2.63 million viewers between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. from Dec. 1 to 25, up 2% from 2006, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

The 6.73 million viewers — including 1.56 million ages 18 to 34 and 3.14 million ages 18 to 49 — who tuned into for the Holiday in Handcuffs debut made it the network's best telecast ever.

ABC Family trailed only sister service Disney Channel in viewers (a 2.74 million average) in the period.

Among adults ages 18 to 34 and 18 to 49, “25 Days” posted solid gains: up 15% to 511,000 watchers with the younger group and up 7% to 1.15 million with Madison Avenue's most-coveted demographic group.

ABC Family also was first in cable in the daypart among women ages 18 to 34 (345,000) and 18 to 49 (623,000).
