Ailes Extended

Inks 5-Year Contract Renewal To Remain Fox News Head

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 11/20/2008 5:08:00 AM MT

Roger Ailes, who has locked up top Fox News Channel talent to long-term deals in recent weeks, will continue to point the way at the network.

Roger AilesAiles today inked a new deal with News Corp. that will keep him at the helm of cable’s top-rated news channel for five more years. Financial details were not disclosed; he made some $20 million in 2007.

Under his new contract, Ailes will not only continue to chart the course for Fox News Channel, but Fox Television Stations, Twentieth Television, MyNetwork TV and Fox Business Network, which celebrated its first anniversary on Oct. 15. Moreover, he will also continue to serve as a senior advisor to News chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch.

"Roger has done a remarkable job building Fox News into a force in journalism and built a great asset for News Corp.," said Murdoch said in a statement. "I have complete confidence in his talent and his editorial judgment."

In October, Fox News Channel, which is losing Britt Hume to retirement, has reached contract extensions with Bill O’Reilly of the network’s and cable news’ top-rated The O’Reilly Factor and Sean Hannity, the co-host of Hannity & Colmes and the host of Hannity’s America.

Fox News also signed Headline News’ Glenn Beck to initiate a weekday 5 p.m. show next spring, plus a weekend program.
