Cablevision, Westchester County Light Up 'Intelligent' Film

Picture Highlights Operator's Lightpath Internet Division Plays In Linking County Services And Communities

By Linda Haugsted -- Multichannel News, 3/27/2008 6:35:00 AM

Cablevision's Optimum Lightpath Internet division has teamed with Westchester County on a film to tout the latter's regional fiber “intelligent network.”

The county was recently lauded by the Intelligent Community Forum, which labeled the region among the top seven “most intelligent communities” in the world.

That was based on the network, built in 2000. The Westchester Telecom Network spans 56,982 fiber miles, delivering services to nearly 60% of the Westchester communities. That includes connections to 225 government buildings, 200 commercial buildings and schools, libraries, hospitals and public safety organizations.

The film, Westchester's Intelligent Network at Work, created by Optimum Lightpath, features interviews with the county officials who use the network and explain how it has made Westchester a “world-class business destination.”

The network is used, for instance, by the Westchester Medical Center, which accesses patient records and X-rays at other facilities in order to speed treatment of trauma cases being transported from those facilities. The Rye Neck School District conducts distant learning classes over the network.

The network is being highlighted in a county where Cablevision faces strong competition from Verizon

The film debuted March 26 at Central Plaza Cinema, a Yonkers theater that is part of the Clearview Cinema chain, owned by Cablevision.
