NAMIC To Launch Diversity Video Network

R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 1/23/2008 2:20:00 AM

The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity In Communications will launch an online Diversity Video Channel this spring through a $150,000 grant from the Motorola Foundation.
The NAMIC and Motorola co-sponsored initiative, which will reside on www.namic.com, will offer user-generated video content, social and professional networking opportunities, professional development, diversity news, about six to eight Webinars, information about careers in technology and other exclusive educational offerings, according to the diversity organization.
The online network will launch with a “Diversity & Technology” national competition involving NAMIC’s 17 chapters around the country that will determine the best regional diversity and technology event. Video entries will be judged by NAMIC’s 2,000 membership base, with winners to be unveiled at NAMIC’s 22nd annual Conference in September.
“NAMIC’s Diversity Video Network represents two themes that are very close to our hearts at Motorola -- diversity and the effective use of technology to educate,” said Dan Moloney, president of Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility business in a statement. “As a leader in the cable industry, we are proud to be in a position to support the community in which we work by contributing to such key initiatives that promote education, diversity and growth.”
NAMIC president Kathy Johnson said the organization is “proud to partner” with the Motorola Foundation, which is committed to keeping diversity at the forefront of emerging digital platforms.”
