By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 7/14/2008 8:02:00 AM

Comcast Corp. is going inside the bat cave with exclusive on-demand content from Warner Bros. Pictures’The Dark Knight.

Under the partnership, terms of which were not disclosed, Warner Bros. will supply Comcast with exclusive behind-the-scenes movie footage, mini-movies and trailers from The Dark Knight, which opens wide July 18. The content will be available through Comcast’s on-demand service, as well as its Fancast.com

Leading up to the film’s release, Comcast will launch six mini-movies, which are exclusive original-content episodes, of a show called “Gotham Tonight,” featuring the film’s actors providing commentary in character and in a news format that tell the story of what has occurred between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

In addition to the “Gotham Tonight” segments, customers can watch exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the cast and filmmakers, and The Dark Knight trailers, all in HD. The “Gotham Tonight” episodes also can be seen at www.Gothamcablenews.com.

“This exclusive behind-the-scenes Batman-VOD adds to our lineup of extensive HD on demand offerings continuously provided by top-notch entertainment partners,” said Derek Harrar, senior vice president and general manager of video services for Comcast, in a statement. “We offer consumers more choices in more ways to enjoy their entertainment experience than anyone else.”

The Dark Knight fare is part of Comcast’s Project Infinity, the operator’s initiative to offer more content choice on TV, including HD, sports, movies, kids’ programs and network TV shows. Currently, Comcast’s VOD lineup offers more than 10,000 unique selections each month, with more than 500 of those choices available in HD, and Comcast customers now are selecting on demand more than 300 million times per month, according to the operator.
