Cisco Touts SDV, Wideband Customers

Rogers To Deploy Switched Video, Japan's J:COM To Use DOCSIS 3.0 Modems

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 6/26/2008 5:07:00 AM

Philadelphia—Cisco Systems announced two cable customer wins: Canada's Rogers Cable Communications will deploy the vendor's switched digital video system for its Ontario customers, and Japan's Jupiter Telecommunications Co. has ordered DOCSIS 3.0 modems.

Rogers Cable will use Cisco’s SDV servers, encryption and quadrature amplitude modulators (QAMs).

J:COM, meanwhile, has started receiving shipments of the Cisco DPC3000 DOCSIS 3.0 channel-bonded cable modem for use in its J:COM NET Ultra 160M Course broadband service, which provides download speeds of up to 160 megabits per second.

The Cisco DPC3000 was one of the first modems to receive CableLabs certification for DOCSIS 3.0.

By incorporating four bonded channels for both the downstream and upstream data, the Cisco DPC3000 -- like other DOCSIS 3.0 modems -- can deliver downstream data rates in excess of 160 Mbps and upstream data rates up to 120 Mbps.
