AMC Unveils Horror Theatricals Online
Commercial-Free Features Are Available As Part Of Net’s 'Monsterfest' Stunt

For its 11th annual "Monsterfest" programming marathon, AMC is bringing full-length theatricals onto its Web site for the first time.
Among AMC’s commercial-free creeps and crawlers Web features: Jack Hill’s Spider Baby and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dementia 13.
The network, kicking off its on-air portion of the programming stunt with Scream 3 at 8 p.m. tonight, has also established a year-long Monsterfest microsite that will be home to exclusive horror content, including interviews with Linda Blair (The Exorcist) and Steve Niles (30 Days of Nights). The site bows today at www.amctv.com/monsterfest.
This year’s Monsterfest will feature 240 consecutive hours of horror pics, including Alien Resurrection, select titles from Friday The 13th, Children of the Corn and Creepshow franchises, The Howling and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, among others.
Monsterfest will also create a multi-dimensional programming package with VOD programming to complement the network’s broadband and on-air offerings.
Monsterfest horror films offered for VOD include:Day of the Triffids, Horror Express, My Best Friend Is A Vampire, Monster Club, Return of the Swamp Thing, and The Company of Wolves.
Exclusive broadband content includes both interactive Monsterfest trivia game and downloadable scary sound ring tones.
AMC officials said that Cox Communications will avail itself of both the programmer's broadband and VOD options, while Comcast and Time Warner Cable will utilize the broadband assets. Charter Communications has opted to use the VOD content.
Cablevisions Systems Corp., which owns AMC parent, Rainbow Entertainment Services, is not involved with Monsterfest’s digital deliveries.
“For the past decade, Monsterfest has been a hugely successful programming stunt for AMC and we are excited to be celebrating the 11th annual event once again across on-air, online and VOD,” said Charlie Collier, executive vice president and general manager of AMC, in a statement. “This year’s festival promises to be the biggest and most comprehensive showcase of horror movie films on television.’’
