HBO raked in the most Sports Emmy Awards nominations this year, garnering a total of 31 nods-- including five each for "Real Sports" and the recently canceled "Inside the NFL."
The premium service's Inside the NFL and Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, with five nomination each, were the top vote getters among sports programs. For Inside the NFL, represent a triumphant farewell. Last month, HBO announced it was canceling “the show the pros watch” after 31 years.
HBO programming earned 31 nominations, followed by ESPN with 26; NBC, 23; Fox, 18; CBS, 17; TNT, 12; NFL Network, eight; Fox Sports Network, six; ESPN2 and ABC, four each; and NASCAR Images and PGA Tour Productions checked in with three apiece.
Other nominees www.emmyonline.tv included MLB Productions, Rush HD and Versus with two nominations each; and 312 Media, ESPN Classic, the Golf Channel, NBA TV and Yahoo! Sports each got one nomination.
A lifetime achievement award will be given to CBS veteran Frank Chirkinian, nicknamed the "Father of Televised Golf."
The 29th Sports Emmy Awards, in 30 categories, will be given out at Time Warner Center on April 28 in New York City.
