Charter Taps Ex-AOL Marketer

By Staff -- Multichannel News, 12/11/2005 7:00:00 PM

St. Louis— Charter Communications Inc. CEO Neil Smit continues to build his executive team, tapping into some of the talent that shares his background in leadership at America Online Inc.

Smit last week named Robert Quigley as the company’s chief marketing officer. Most recently the principal of Quigley Consulting Group, he had previously served executive vice president of America Online. He also served as the chief operating officer of the Internet service’s consumer-marketing division.

Charter hired a search firm in March to fill the newly created CMO position.

Meanwhile, the operator moved its 18-member marketing staff back to St. Louis in September. The department was originally in St. Louis, but was relocated to Colorado under the tenure of then-CEO Carl Vogel, who had a home near Denver.

Quigley will head a team that includes Barbara Hedges, senior vice president of consumer marketing; Ted Schremp, senior vice president and general manager of Charter Telephone; Himesh Bhise, corporate vice president of high-speed Internet product management; and Chris Moloney, vice president of consumer insights.

Quigley also brings experience in the publishing industry to his new position. He started his career at Life magazine, in its circulation and direct-response marketing departments.
