Gemstar-TV Guide Opens Beta of Web-Video Search

Online Video Guide Indexes Videos from 55 Sites

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 4/16/2007 9:23:00 AM

Gemstar-TV Guide International’s TV Guide unit launched the beta version of its Online Video Guide, which the company claimed provides unique features for “channel-surfing” video on the Web.

The Online Video Guide, which was code-named Project Stingray, has been in development since last June.

With the beta launch, the guide will index videos from 55 entertainment-focused Web sites, including those of broadcast and cable programmers such as A&E Television Networks, BET, BBC America, CNN, Comedy Central, Disney Channel, ESPN, MTV, Nickelodeon, TBS, Showtime and HBO.

The guide allows users to search for TV shows, movies and video clips by title or keyword and to browse media by most popular videos, most popular TV shows, top celebrities, network and genre.

TVGuide.com provides direct links to specific clips or full episodes, but it doesn’t host the video content itself.
