Orlando, Fla. -- Scientific Atlanta said it is now shipping the Universal Session and Resource Manager, which allows both video-on-demand and switched-digital-video streams to be served from the same pool of quadrature-amplitude-modulation devices.
The USRM, available as a software download and upgrade to existing SDV servers, distributes the management of the video and data network control plane to edge QAMs. The USRM can be used as a stand-alone system or integrated with Cisco's VOD system or SA's SDV servers.
SA said its SDV system has been deployed in systems representing 3.5 million homes passed.
