By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 3/11/2008 12:55:00 PM

The newly christened MSG Plus got a big plus out of its coverage of the Roger Federer-Pete Sampras exhibition tennis match last night.

The regional sports network, formerly known as FSNY, served up a 1.11 household rating, the equivalent of 82,000 households, in the New York DMA March 10 during its coverage of the event at Madison Square Garden. The match, in which the world’s No. 1 Federer staved off his boyhood idol in three sets, was the network’s highest-rated program, outside of National Hockey League games, since 2006, according to network officials.

On a demo basis, the match, which aired nationwide on Tennis Channel, NetJets combatants Roger Federer and Pete Sampras at MSGearned MSG Plus a 0.95 mark in the market among males 18 to 34.

During what it considers to be primetime, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., MSG Plus officials said the network averaged a 0.99 household mark in the DMA, outpointing SNY (0.39), Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network (0.37), ESPN (0.24) and ESPN2 (0.09)

“We are really excited about last night's rating on MSG Plus,” said Lydia Murphy-Stephans, executive vice president, programming and production, MSG Media, in a statement. “The promotion and excitement around the Sampras vs. Federer match at The Garden helped to create an immense amount of awareness for the rebranding of FSNY to MSG Plus. Our goal is to continuously bring New York area fans the best in live local, national and international sports.”
