Televises Tonight’s No. 11 TCU - No. 10 Utah Battle In High-Def

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 11/6/2008 4:32:00 AM

In its biggest football match-up to date, CBS College Sports Network will cover the Mountain West Conference showdown tonight between Utah and TCU.

The No. 11-ranked Horned Frogs will invade Salt Lake City and the 10th-ranked Utes, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. (ET).

CBS College Sports Network, which counts some 27 million subscribers, will broadcast the game in high-definition. The contest will also mark the first appearance by CBS Sports football analyst Dan Fouts on the sister service, where he will team with the cable network’s play-by-play man Tom Hart.

“This is a big game with national significance, pertaining to the BCS [Bowl Championship Series] rankings,” said CBS College Sports executive vice president and general manager Steve Herbst. “The Mountain West has had a terrific season as the conference celebrates its 10th year.”

Herbst said the telecast will not only be enhanced by the presence of Fouts, but the high-definition broadcast.

“Everybody we speak to -- operators, advertisers and fans -- wants the games in high-definition. They look great and gives viewers another reason to tune in,” said Herbst.

He notes that CBS College Sports, which has been televising Navy pigsking games in the improved standard, will increase its HD basketball and football telecasts “five- to six-fold” during 2009.
