Laila Ali To Give Teens A Summer Workout

New Reality Fitness Show Premieres On The N In July

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 6/18/2008 7:22:00 AM

Teen network The N Wednesday announced its new reality show, The N’s Student Body, will debut Friday, July 11. The teen fitness show will pit 12 students from rival high school against each other in a race to see who can become the most physically and mentally fit.

Following its premiere, the eight-episode, hour-long series will air every Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on The N.

The winning school and the winning student that makes a change for the better, both physically and mentally, will take home $25,000 that will be used for new school facilities and programs.

“As these teens push themselves and one another toward the ultimate prize, they will face their fears, confront their families and find out if they have what it takes to transform their lives,” network officials said.

The series will be hosted by motivational author and professional boxer, Laila Ali—daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali—and is executive produced by The N along with Reveille's Mark Koops, Dave Broome of 25/7 Productions and Ben Silverman, the founder of Reveille (The Office, Uglly Betty, Biggest Loser) and now co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

The N's Student Body is a reality TV series with a positive point-of-view, 'reality with morality' we like to say," Sarah Tomassi Lindman, The N’s senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement. "Our viewers will find themselves cheering on these remarkable teens as they strive to get into shape and change their lives."

Susan Schulz, editor-in-chief of CosmoGIRL! magazine and her team of top fashion stylists will guest star on two back-to-back episodes.

The N's Student Body follows the network premiere of Queen Bees at 9 p.m. ET. The hour-long ultimate mean girl makeover reality series takes an introspective look at seven self-centered, narcissistic girls who have been elected by family members, boyfriends and friends in the hopes that they will better themselves from the inside out. Each young woman will take a closer look at who they are and re-examine their not so nice ways. The girl that changes the most will win $25,000.

The N, the 24-hour TV network exclusively for and about teens, is currently available in 64 million households via cable, digital cable and satellite, as well on mobile, VOD and broadband.
