Congress Passes Legislation That Would Extend Ban on Internet Access Taxation Until 2014

Washington – President Bush is expected to sign legislation approved Tuesday by Congress that will renew the ban on the Internet access taxation until 2014.
The new seven-year extension means that no state or local government may impose taxes on the retail price of cable modem service and other forms of Internet access.
The bill goes to the White House after the House voted 402-0 to approve the same bill passed by the Senate last week.
The House had originally approved a four-year extension, bowing to pressure from state officials who protested efforts to make the ban permanent.
The seven-year extension was approved just two days before the current ban was to expire.
