Thomson Picks Vidiom’s Tru2way Software

Picks Software For Its Cable Set-Top Boxes

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 5/13/2008 6:29:00 AM

Thomson has selected Vidiom Systems’ OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) software stack for its cable set-top boxes that will run tru2way, the CableLabs specification for interactive applications.

Pascal Portelli, Thomson vice president of North American cable, said the company has been working with Vidiom on the framework of its tru2way set-top for more than a year. The agreement “formalizes our relationship and enables us to progress towards the final stages of our development,” he said in a prepared statement.

Tru2way is the consumer-facing brand name for the CableLabs-developed technology, which is still referred to as OpenCable and OCAP by developers and cable operators.

Vidiom originally created the OCAP middleware for OCAP Development LLC (ODL), a joint venture of Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Vidiom claims the stack includes a “porting layer” that makes the software more easily adaptable to a variety of platforms.

Based in Broomfield, Colo., Vidiom is a subsidiary of Switzerland’s ADB Group.
