Verizon’s Seidenberg: Anytime, Anywhere

By Matt Stump -- Multichannel News, 1/5/2006 2:36:00 PM

Las Vegas -- Verizon Communications Inc. CEO Ivan Seidenberg sketched out a digital content anytime, anywhere vision during his keynote address at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show here Thursday, highlighted by Verizon Wireless' new “V CAST Music” service (www.multichannel.com/article/CA6297137.html?display=Breaking+News) and the regional Bell operating company’s Verizon FiOS TV service.

Seidenberg said Verizon has generated 20% market share in Keller, Texas, less than four months after launch. “This is not a me-too cable clone,” he added, citing FiOS TV’s 22 HDTV channels, 400 digital channels and 1,800 video-on-demand titles.

“We are the first in the market with an all-fiber video, voice and data network,” Seidenberg said. “We've learned that customers just love the speed and love this service.”

Seidenberg also showcased a raft of new applications set for launch later this year, including interactive-TV ads, phone-call management on the TV and the ability to bring Internet-protocol content from the Internet, like podcasts, or personal content, like digital photos, into the FiOS TV home network.

“Looking ahead," he added, "we are developing the operating systems, applications and next-generation TV experience that will give customers access to all of their digital content on any device, any network, any time they want in a way that's as intuitive and transparent to the customer as the telephone or the Internet is today."

Verizon also announced that its FiOS TV service was extended to the towns of Colleyville, Grapevine, Murphy, Sachse, Southlake, Westlake and Wylie, all Texas (www.multichannel.com/article/CA6297182.html?display=Breaking+News).
