AT&T Ups HD Count, Adds History, FBN and Ethnic Channels
U-verse TV to Add History and Lifetime Movie Network HD, Fox Business Network, and Filipino, South Asian and Vietnamese Content

AT&T next week will add History Channel HD and Lifetime Movie Network HD to U-verse TV – bringing the service to 26 national high-definition channels – and will carry the Oct. 15 debut of Fox Business Network in standard-definition. The telco is also expanding ethnic-programming options with Filipino, South Asian and Vietnamese channels.
Beginning Oct. 15, according to AT&T, U-verse TV will add History Channel HD and Lifetime Movie Network HD to the lineup.
The telco previously announced plans to add those two HD networks by the end of 2007, along with TBS HD, which it made available to subscribers last Friday. Three more channels are on deck for U-verse: CNN HD, Animal Planet HD and Versus/The Golf Channel HD.
Including local and regional HD channels, AT&T now offers more than 30 high-definition channels in each of its 25 markets.
In addition, AT&T will expand the standard-definition lineup. On Oct. 15, depending on subscription level, U-verse TV customers will have access to Fox Business Network, BYU Television, Chiller, ION Life, and MTV Networks’ Urge digital-music service (which has been merged with RealNetworks’ Rhapsody).
AT&T’s new in-language and international offerings, available starting Oct. 23: a Filipino Package for $21 per month, with GMA Pinoy TV and The Filipino Channel (both available a la carte); TV Asia and SET Asia, which feature South Asian programming, available for $15 each per month; and SBTN (Saigon Broadcasting Television Network), billed as the first 24-hour Vietnamese-language channel, available for $15 per month.
AT&T currently offers Japanese-language network TV Japan for $25 per month and Paquete Español, a package of Spanish-language channels, for $10 per month.
After first launching in June 2006 with about 200 channels, AT&T said, U-verse TV currently carries more than 320.
