YES Network Tuesday said Monday night’s telecast of the New York Yankees 9-5 loss to the Texas Rangers was the network’s highest-rated primetime telecast of the season, drawing a 6.8 household rating and more than 715,000 viewers in the New York market.
The ratings home run is likely little solace to die-hard Yankee fans who watched the home team lose on a Marlon Byrd (pictured) grand slam with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning and saw young pitcher Joba Chamberlain leave the game in the fifth inning with an apparent shoulder injury.
Last night’s telecast peaked at an 8.6 household rating from 11 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. ET, YES officials said. The highest-rated telecast overall this season is the Tuesday, April 1 Yankees-Blue Jays matinee season opener which generated a 7.4 TV household rating (766,000 total viewers).
The game was the #1-rated program for the day in New York and, since May 28, Yankees primetime games on YES have ranked #1 in the New York DMA 21 of the past 22 game nights, YES officials said.
Ratings for YES’ Yankees telecasts thus far this season are up 2% season-to-date over last year (4.6 vs. 4.5 average TV household rating in New York DMA), putting the network on pace to have its best-rated Yankees season ever.
