‘Gong Show’ To Dance Again

Attell To Host Comedy Central Version Of Variety Show

By R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 5/8/2008 4:13:00 AM MT

Offbeat 1970s variety series The Gong Show is making a return to television – minus its legendary host Chuck Barris.

Chuckie, Chuckie, ChuckieComedy Central and Sony Pictures Television will produce an updated version of the series, this time hosted by comedian Dave Attell. The Gong Show with Dave Attell is scheduled to premiere July 17 and will consist of eight to 10 off-beat and hilarious acts that will be judged by a panel of three revolving celebrity judges, according to Comedy Central president of original programming and development Lauren Corrao.

The series, which will be executive-produced by Happy Madison Productions and Andrew Golder (Identity and Win Ben Stein's Money) are accepting submissions for potential contestants at gongshowcasting@aol.com.

“We are very excited to welcome Dave Attell back to the network and put the Comedy Central touch on such a classic game/variety show," said Corrao in a statement. "Dave is the perfect guy to host this series.  His dry, comedic wit paired with the outspoken personalities of our celebrity judges and the outrageous acts will create a fresh, new take on the famed series."
