NESN is pushing for laughs as it begins production on a sports-related stand-up series that will premiere this summer.
The regional sports network plans to bow 10 episodes of NESN’s Comedy All-Stars, with each installment featuring a trio of top stand-ups from Boston and other areas around the nation.
Hosted by New England native and Boston College graduate Gary Gulman (Last Comic Standing, Tourgasm), the show is produced in partnership with Barry Katz and New Wave Entertainment (TBS’s Frank TV, Last Comic Standing), exclusively for NESN. The network has traditionally supplemented its game coverage of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins with original programming, now under its ONE (Original NESN Entertainment) umbrella.
“NESN’s Comedy All-Stars represents the expanding efforts of One to bring unique programming to the network by partnering with a nationally renowned production team,” said Joel Feld, NESN’s vice president of programming and executive produce, in a statement. “We believe the combination of sports and comedy, both with their own rich New England traditions, fit perfectly with our mission to entertain the hard core and casual New England sports fan.”
Fans 18 and older may be able to get in on the stand-up action this week, when NESN's Comedy All-Stars tapes segments at Boston’s Comedy Connection at 7:30 p.m. from Jan. 13-17, by sending an email with their name, date and show preference to NESNcomedyshow@yahoo.com.
