Telephone Company Wins Franchise in Newburgh, Challenging Time Warner Cable

Verizon said in won a franchise in Newburgh, N.Y., where the telephone company will take on incumbent cable TV operator Time Warner Cable.
It marks the first pay TV franchise for Verizon in Orange County. It counts franchise agreements in 75 other New York communities, including parts of Long Island, Rockland County and Westchester County.
The New York Public Service Commission issued an order confirming Verizon’s franchise in Newburgh on Dec. 12.
“The PSC’s confirmation of the franchise agreement for the town of Newburgh brings us closer to providing the choice and competition that New York consumers demand,” Monica Azare, Verizon senior vice president for New York and Connecticut, said in a prepared statement.
