Yankees-Blue Jays Second Most-Watched Opening Game Since 1995

Opening Day turned into Opening Night, but the contest turned out to be the second most-watched New York Yankees season-starting telecast on broadcast or cable since 1995.
Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network notched a 7.4 household rating in the New York DMA for its coverage of the Bronx Bombers’ 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays April 1.That translated into 766,000 viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
The Yankees-Jays game -- the final season-opener at "The House That Ruth Built" before the club moves into a new ballpark for the 2009 season -- trailed the April 3, 2005 Yankees-Boston Red Sox game, which batted an 11.6 rating and 1.21 million watchers, according to YES officials
The April 1 contest peaked with a 10.0 rating from 9:30-9:45 p.m. Within the New York market, YES’s telecast out-pointed the season premiere of Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen, CBS’s NCIS and Big Brother and NBC’s Biggest Loser and Law and Order: SVU.
