Cable Networks Win Nine News and Documentary Emmy Awards
Ted Koppel Presented With Lifetime Achievement Award

Cable networks captured nine awards, and Ted Koppel was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 28th News and Documentary Emmy Awards Sept. 24.
Koppel also won an award as the anchor and producer of the best long-form informational programming for Iran: The Most Dangerous Nation on Discovery Channel.
Cinemax was the co-winner of the outstanding documentary award, along with the Documentary Channel (available on Dish Network and Google Video) for their entries. The winners were God Sleeps in Rwanda and Shake Hands with the Devil: The Journey of Romeo Dallaire, respectively. Cinemax also won a craft award, for best graphic and artistic design, for The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation.
CNN captured the award for best coverage of a breaking story (long form) for its 2006 election night coverage.
The Discovery Channel was the top cable winner. Besides Koppel’s award, the channel took home statuettes for the best long-form continuous coverage for Global Warming: What You Need to Know with Tom Brokaw; and for cinematography on Discovery Atlas: China Revealed.
The National Geographic Channel was a single winner for best science, technology or nature programming for Eye of the Leopard.
Two networks not identified by their news and documentary programming also won awards. DMC: My Adoption Journey won the Emmy for best cultural arts program for VH1; and WeTV took home the Emmy for best editing for Vietnam Nurses with Dana Delany.
PBS topped all networks with 9 awards; followed by CBS, 5; Discovery Channel and NBC with 3 each; Cinemax with 2; and ABC, CNN, the Documentary Channel, National Geographic Channel, VH1 and WeTV with one each.
