Mexico’s Megacable Communicaciones is offering customers in Guadalajara a fourth option in the triple-play bundle -- alarm-monitoring services provided with technology from startup NextAlarm.com.
Megacable began offering the alarm-monitoring service July 1. Subscribers can sign up for the service even if they don’t have Internet service from the operator.
IP Monitor, a Guadalajara-based alarm-monitoring company, will respond to alarm signals to dispatch police, fire or rescue and provide customer service and tech support.
The cable company is using NextAlarm.com’s broadband-alarm adapters, which will allow IP Monitor to communicate with Megacable subscribers' alarm systems over high-speed-Internet connections. As a NextAlarm.com reseller, IP Monitor will use a branded version of NextAlarm's customer portal to let subscribers set up and personalize their account and notification settings.
NextAlarm.com, based in Ojai, Calif., is one of a group of startups targeting the home-security services market with technologies that work over broadband Internet connections.
Megacable, which provides service in 58 Mexican cities, has more than 800,000 cable-television subscribers, more than 300,000 Internet connections and 50,000 telephone customers.
