Providing more competition for Cablevision Systems, Verizon won a video franchise for its FiOS TV service in Buchanan, N.Y.
The telephone company won the franchise in the Westchester County town on Monday. The vote expands the number of New York Communities that have approved video franchises for Verizon to 65.
Separately, Verizon said it began marketing its FiOS Internet service to additional customers in New York state, including parts of the town of Cornwall, the village of Cornwall on the Hudson, the city of Newburgh and the town of Poughkeepsie.
The high-speed Internet service is already available in many other New York communities, including parts of the southern portion of Poughkeepsie near Wappingers and in the Spackenkill area, Verizon said.
