Cablevision Ramps Up HD Lineup
Operator Will Push Roster To 60 By Adding 15 Channels By Aug. 1

Cablevision Systems Corp. will add high-definition services from Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel and FX as part of an overall 15-network HD rollout Aug. 1 that will increase its free enhanced lineup to 60 channels.
The new additions will launch over a five-day period starting July 28 and will be available to Cablevision’s more than 1.1 million high definition-enabled subscribers by Aug. 1.
While the network would not dislcose all 15 HD channel additions, the MSO said it will add HD offerings from Nickelodeon, WE tv, AMC, Animal Planet, The Weather Channel, Travel Channel, Fox News Channel, Discovery Channel, Hallmark Movie Channel and FX.
The 60-channel lineup still includes the Cablevision’s Rainbow Media-owned Voom HD suite of channels. Cablevision’s carriage deal with Voom was set to expire June 30, according to published reports.
Cablevision officials said it does not comment on contract negotiations with program providers.
“With our nation poised to celebrate the holiday that marks our freedom, we thought it was a perfect time to announce even more free HD for our iO TV digital cable customers,” said John Trierweiler, Cablevision senior vice president of product management, in a statement. “Free HD has become an important competitive differentiator of our digital-cable service, and with these additions iO TV customers will have access to 60 of the best HD channels at no additional cost, including all of the HD games of all nine New York-area professional sports teams.”

60 HD channels, but only a dozen are worth watching! The rest are junk.
Compared to FiOS, cablevision is horrible. FiOS cost slightly more, but they goive SOOOOOOOOO much more! The picture and sound quality are so much better too. And the STANDARD fiber internet is fster than Cablevisions "Boost". Can't wait to switch back! Sorry I ever switched to start with.

My bet is that Voom will be gone August 1. Cablevision is likely doing what Dish Network did--double-counting HD channel capacity during a transition phase. Is it a coincidence that Cablevision is planning to add 15 HD channels (the same number as Voom), yet can''''t even tell us who they all are? Later this month, expect the other shoe to drop. Cablevision and Voom will be "unable to come to terms," or Rainbow is "discontinuing Voom." Perfect timing! No extra bandwidth needed, yet Cablevision can throw around the "60 channels" figure for a few weeks.

They recently gained more bandwidth by eliminating several analog channels like SciFi, HSN, A&E, Animal Planet, E!, TruTV, QVC, TLC, C-SPAN2, OTB, and Travel Channel and making them digital only. (1 analog channel = room for 2 or 3 more HD channels)
Switched Video is another thing entirely. The problem could be that there's more customers attempting to watch Voom channels in a hub than there is available switch channel slots, and they likely share slots with VOD and HDVOD streams too.

how can CV add 15 additional HD channels when they are unable to deliver the current 15 VOOM channels? I understand they have a SDV problem and as a result of limited bandwith there usually up to 6 VOOM channels with the fol message: channel not available. Please try later! After many calls and in house visits this situation has not been remedied.
